Ethics Centers and Organizations with a Significant Emphasis on Ethics

Focus on GeoEthics

The International Association for Promoting Geoethics is a group founded in Rome in 2012 with sections in a growing number of countries worldwide. Their name states their mission. There is no fee to be a member of this organization, although donations are always welcome. Their primary activity is the organization of talks, symposia, and publications related to GeoEthics, and the production of a blog and other information transmitted online through social media. IAPG is affiliated with a number of other organizations, including the American Geosciences Institute (AGI), Geological Society of America (GSA), European Geoscience Union (EGU), International Union of Geological Societies (IUGS), Geological Surveys of Europe (EGS), European Federation of Geologists (EFG), African Network for Geo-Education (ANGE). To learn more about IAPG and to become a member, visit http://www.geoethics.org .

The American Institute for Professional Geologists (AIPG) is an organization that serves its members and the broader community in many ways, but it has always had a particular emphasis on ethical practice in the Geosciences ( http://www.aipg.org ).

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is a federation of geoscience organizations with an international reach, serving perhaps 250,000 geoscientists worldwide ( http://www.americangeosciences.org ). Geoscience ethics has been a persistent forcus for AGI over the years.

National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG), http://www.asbog.org

The Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) includes members in a wide range of applied fields, including hydrogeology, hydraulogy, environmental geology and engineering geology ( www.aegweb.org ).
